A recent Wizards blunder may be driving the franchise’s questionable judgment

As hard as it is to say, the Washington Wizards start to the season has become a typical norm for the fanbase up to this point.

The Wizards have been stuck in a constant cycle of mediocrity and largely because of the organization's self inflicted wounds that have constantly put them behind the eight ball.

Between the mismanagement of the Kyle Kuzma situation in Washington, signing Bradley Beal to a questionable contract extension (shoutout to the Suns for relieving them of this burden) and moving on from Kristaps Porzingis for absolutely the worst return possible.

However, of the Wizards botched decisions in recent memory, arguably the decision that haunts them the most is the team's impatience that led to what now looks like one of the worst trades in recent years moving on from Deni Avdija.

Deni Avdija's breakout has struck fear in Wizards operation

Avdija has emerged as a breakout star with the Portland Trail Blazers proving that sometimes situation is what matters the most.

Playing for an organization that's willing to provide patience in his development, while looking to instill confidence in himself, the versatile forward has proved exactly why he entered the NBA as an intriguing prospect with high upside.

Putting together a career-year in Portland, averaging 25.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.3 assists, while shooting 47.6% from field goal range and 37.2% from beyond the arc, Avdija has left the Wizards organization with immense regret.

For an organization who's stuck at the bottom of the NBA standings for yet another season, the decision to move on from what looks to be like a future All-Star, who's still only 24-years-old, only adds to the reason why the team's decision-makers have become timid to make the moves that need to be made.

Bilal Coulibaly's development in Washington is the latest example of how the Wizards past mistake has clouded their judgement.

Coulibaly's time in Washington has clearly run its course as he's shown not only inconsistent production, but injury woes that have hindered his development in a major way.

Still, in year three, Coulibaly's failure to even scratch his potential suggests the Wizards should likely cut ties with the French product and give his meaningful minutes to a prospect who could be a long-term answer in the team's rebuild.

Instead, the organization's fear of having another situation similar to Avdija's emergence has clouded their judgement and has put the team in fear to pull the plug on a failed experiment.

All that to say, while the Wizards need to learn from their past mistakes, they can't led their regrets haunt them to the point that they can't face the brutal reality that will await them both today and likely months from now.
