The Washington Wizards rebuild continues as the team quietly positions themselves to end it with a bang as early as this offseason.
After forming a superstar duo ahead of the NBA trade deadline, by acquiring four-time All-Star Trae Young and future Hall of Famer Anthony Davis, it became crystal clear that the Wizards have a timeline set for their future plans.
With President of Monumental Basketball revealing the team was exiting the "reconstruction" phase of the rebuild after landing Young, the addition of Davis made it even more obvious that Washington was serious about competing in the Eastern Conference as soon as next season.
Still, with a prime opportunity to land yet another top prospect this offseason to cap the reconstruction phase with another potential cornerstone, Washington is in arguably the best position possible to complete their roster to compete both now and in the future.
With top prospects like Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa and Cameron Boozer coming to mind, it's clear the Wizards have plenty of options to decide from this offseason, depending on what position they land in during the NBA Draft Lottery.
However, after arguably the best college game of the season so far, Trae Young may have just made his preferred pick clear.
Trae Young is a fan of Darius Acuff Jr.
In a double-overtime thriller between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Alabama Crimson Tide, two of the top draft prospects in Darius Acuff Jr. and Labanon Philon went head to head.
Philon and the Crimson Tide came out on top 117-115, but Acuff Jr. only helped his draft stock with an unreal performance, finishing with 49 points, five rebounds and five assists shooting 16/27 from field goal range and knocking down six of his 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
The 6-foot-3 freshman is considered not only one of the top guard prospects, but one of the best players available in the entirety of the 2026 NBA Draft class.
Acuff Jr. has been overshadowed by the likes of Peterson, Dybantsa and Boozer, but with this recnet monster performance, he's caught the attention of nearly everyone - including Young.
Darius Acuff one of them next ones !

Head up Killa!
Obviously, the Wizards need for a guard isn't as major as it was prior to the addition of Young in the backcourt.
Nonetheless, depending on where the team falls in the draft order, Acuff Jr. could be the best available player and with the team's new star already being a big fan, it could be the perfect fit for all parties involved.
