Entering the season, the Washington Wizards seem to have one of the favorites to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award on the roster.

Tre Johnson seemed to have be one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft class, at least in the Wizards range outside of the top five,

Nonetheless, following an impressive showing in the NBA Combine, many believed that there was a chance Johnson could've been selected in the top 3 solely because of his high upside as a dynamic scoring option.

Despite that, the Texas product found himself sliding just outside the top five to the Wizards, who selected the guard with the No. 6 overall pick.

Putting the former SEC standout in a situation that seemed like a perfect fit in Washington, where his development would be a priority seemed like a prime position for Johnson to make a run at the award many projected him to give No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg a run for his money towards.

However, those high expectations were quickly met with an inconsistent start to his rookie season, where the young playmaker was forced to realized that life in the NBA may not be as easy as it once was at the college level.

Fortunately, Johnson looks like he's finally adjusting to NBA speed and as he continues to gain confidence, his performance has began to improve,

Tre Johnson looks like the top prospect the Wizards selected him to be

In the Wizards recent 124-113 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, there weren't many bright spots for Washington outside of Tre Johnson.

The first-year man put together one of his best performances to date, finishing the matchup with 19 points, seven rebounds and an assist, while shooting 60% from field goal range and 50% from beyond the arc.

Not only did Johnson look like the sharpshooter that the Wizards drafted him to be, but he looked like the dynamic scoring threat that could take over a game in a heartbeat.

Coming back from injury, Johnson is slowly but surely looking more comfortable as he continues to get live reps and with plenty of time left in the season, the guard has the chance to prove he can be the player Washington hoped he could be when taking a swing on him with their top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

All the talent is there and if he continues to develop, Johnson only adds to the proof the Wizards made the right call.
