The Washington Wizards have plenty of high upside players rounding out their roster heading into next season.

Bilal Coulibaly is a former lottery pick, with the skillset to be one of the best two-way players in the league at some point.

Alex Sarr is former No. 2 overall pick with the ceiling to be one of the most unique talents in the league.

Newly acquired Cam Whitmore has the offensive scoring prowess to put him in elite company if he can prove that an increased role will allow for him to take that step the Wizards hoped he could when they traded for him this offseason.

The three names above have high expectations for their futures in Washington and that's not even talking about the other young names on the roster like Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, Will Riley, AJ Johnson and even Jamir Watkins.

However, the one player not mentioned, has both the talent and work ethic to be the cornerstone for the Wizards to build around moving forward and if he didn't have the motivation to be that player before, he surely does now.

Tre Johnson just got all the motivation he needs

Entering his rookie season as the reigning No. 6 overall pick, Tre Johnson has plenty of expectations set upon him and rightfully so.

As arguably the most explosive and well-rounded scorer in the entire 2025 NBA Draft, Johnson has everything at his disposal to get the ground running as a rookie.

Between the immediate opportunity to play big minutes, his talent level and the veteran leadership in CJ McCollum to mentor him, there's no reason the former Texas star shouldn't have a very encouraging rookie campaign.

Not only can Johnson be the best rookie in the league this season, but there's nothing stopping him from immediately becoming the best player on the Wizards from the jump.

However, a recent prediction from Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes suggest that Johnson won't even be the Wizards' best player in three years, let alone this season.

In all fairness, the prediction was mainly surrounding the idea that Alex Sarr would be the best player in Washington in three years.

However, that indirectly suggests that Johnson won't be that guy for the Wizards.

Johnson should use that prediction as motivation to fuel him to not only have a huge rookie season, but to prove that he is the franchise player the Wizards have desperately been searching for.
