Tre Johnson has a lot riding on his development with the Washington Wizards.
The incoming rookie has a chip on his shoulder and it's not only driven by the desire to prove Washington's front office right for selecting him with the No. 6 overall pick, but it's also driven from the desire to prove the five teams who selected ahead of the Wizards wrong.
For Johnson, confidence has never been an issue.
The guard has made it clear that he holds the ultimate confidence in his ability on the floor, and considering his work ethic, it's easy to understand why.
Nearly any NBA player with confidence in their game will tell you that when they hang their sneakers up for good, they want to be remembered as the best.
However, only a quarter of those players are willing to put in the time and effort to leave that legacy for themselves behind.
Fortunately for the Wizards, their young guard is apart of the select few that has already showcased his willingness to put the work in.
On countless occasions, Johnson has been confimed to be both the first one in the gym and the last one out.
In a recent interview with Mark Medina of Essentially Sports, Johnson made it obvious why he could be the face that changes things in Washington both now and in the future.
When asked what he's been trying to show about his tendency to tirelessly work in the gym, Johnson made it clear that his motive isn't to prove anything, but simply to better himself.
“I haven’t been trying to show anything,” Johnson told Mark Medina of Essentially Sports. “I’m just trying to get better with my game. I’m really just focusing on everything and all aspects in general. I can do whatever is asked. I can do whatever is needed.
“That’s the biggest thing,” the rookie continued. “I’m the first one in, and the last one to leave. That has probably been me these last few weeks."
The 19-year-old has the dedication and the willingness to make a name for himself in this league, and while that may not come immediately, he's made it clear why he''ll be a force to be reckoned with from the jump.
Johnson has everything needed to stamp himself as a star in this league and if he plays his cards right, he could be the face of the Wizards franchise for years to come.
