Jonathan Kuminga is arguably the best player available on the free agency market.
Over the last month, the Washington Wizards were one team mentioned as a potential suitor for the former lottery pick, but that was prior to the team's decision to pull the trigger on a high-upside swing landing Cam Whitmore from the Houston Rockets.
Following the move, it seemed that the potential for the Wizards to remain in the sweepstakes for Kuminga faded and the likelihood of the versatile forward landing in Washington felt slim.
Obviously, that could still be the reality of the situation, but considering the slow market for the Warriors' young player, general manager Will Dawkins could reconsider the possibility of making a bold move to bolster the team's frontcourt.
Since the rumors around Kuminga and the Wizards died down, there hasn't been that much said about the former G-League Ignite standout's market.
The latest reports suggested that both the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns were interested in Kuminga, but the Warriors lack of interest to make a deal with either team stalled any potential framework of a deal.
Whether it's due to Golden State's minimal interest in the players the Suns and Kings were offering or solely because of the fact both teams are Western Conference opponents is unknown. Regardless, it seems like a deal for Kuminga with these squads is unlikely.
As for Kuminga and his camp, the forward remains reluctant to remain with the Warriors as he's determined to find a situation best for him.
Washington doesn't have much cap space right now due to the two steep contracts of CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton on their current payroll, but they could get creative to find a way to bring Kuminga to D.C. if the move felt beneficial for all sides.
The Wizards could offer veteran contracts to help the Warriors compete next season or potentially other young players if Golden State prefers.
Kuminga could immediately find a large role with the Wizards, who are clearly focused on development and building towards the future.
Not to mention the Dubs could refrain from seeing Kuminga blossom on a team within their conference.
However, it still feels like a long shot to see the Wizards take a swing on Kuminga considering his asking price and the fact they'd have to give up additional compensation to a Warriors team that is making it clear they won't give up the former first-rounder for free.
