The Washington Wizards needed signs of encouragement from Alex Sarr following his lackluster rookie season.

Sarr's defensive flashes throughout year one made his inefficient offense as a rookie somewhat bearable.

However, there's no doubt that if the French product was going to develop into a star player for the Wizards, it would take a massive development on the offensive end to warrant the Wizards decision to select him with the No. 2 overall pick.

Especially considering the phenomenal rookie season from the likes of players like Stephon Castle with the San Antonio Spurs.

Fortunately, Sarr's emergence this season has put him in elite company with a member of the Spurs, that even leaves Castle outside of the group.

Alex Sarr & Victor Wembanyama in a class of their own

Sarr joins Victor Wembanyama as the only two players to start the season with these impressive stats.

Sarr has done a tremendous job bouncing back from his struggling rookie campaign and up to this point of the season, the 7-footer looks like one of the best sophomores the NBA has to offer.

The big man is averaging 19 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists, whole shooting 54% from field goal range and 45.5% from beyond the arc.

And while there's no denying his offensive leap is impressive in its own right, it's his defensive versatility averaging 2.3 blocks per game that puts him in the elite company with Wembanyama.

Wemby, who's averaging 25.6 points, 12.9 points, 3.1 assists and 4.1 blocks per game is without a doubt in a class of his own when discussing future faces of the league.

The fellow Frenchmen is considered a generational talent, and there's no doubt that his talent level makes him one of not only the best big men in the league, but one of the best players.

All that to say, for the Wizards front office and their fanbase, the fact that Sarr is the lone player in this elite company with Wemby proves that Washington may have a future star on their hands after all.

Following the struggles throughout his rookie season, this recent development is a sense of validation that the Wizards front office made the correct decision to select Sarr with the No. 2 overall pick last offseason.

Although these averages come in a small sample size with less than 10 games in to the NBA regular season, it's clear that the future is bright in Washington.
