The Washington Wizards have been one of the busiest teams in the league this offseason.

From kicking off the offseason with a blockbuster trade to land CJ McCollum in exchange for Jordan Poole to staying busy on draft night, general manager Will Dawkins has been at the forefront of all the team's decisions over the last few months.

After assembling arguably a top five draft haul, the Wizards continued to find ways to add to their roster by landing former first-round picks Cam Whitmore, Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley.

Shortly after, the Wizards were forced to make a few corresponding moves to trim their roster down to size which led to the buyouts of veterans Richaun Holmes, Marcus Smart and newly acquired Blake Wesley.

Obviously, the biggest name of the players the Wizards parted ways with is former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart.

Originally, when the team acquired Smart it was clear that the guard wouldn't be a long-term fit for the Wizards, but instead the hope was that Washington would be able to flip the vet's contract into positive assets this offseason or potentially ahead of the 2025-26 NBA trade deadline.

However, that hope quickly came to an end this offseason when seemingly no trade market for Smart led to a buyout for the former lottery pick which eventually led him to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers upon clearing waivers.

At least no trade market for Smart is what we thought was the cause for a Smart buyout.

Instead, it turns out there was at least a small market for Smart's services and fortunately for the Wizards, a trade never came to fruition.

Heat considered a Smart-Rozier swap

According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, the Miami Heat heavily considered a Terry Rozier for Marcus Smart swap earlier this offseason, but eventually decided against it over the lack of organizational consensus on whether or not the move would be a clear upgrade or not.

Rozier has been in the NBA headlines this offseason for all the wrong reason amidst his gambling investigation.

If a deal was made, Rozier would have landed in Washington leaving the Wizards with an un-needed headache.

Sure, they could have opted to buyout Rozier like they did with Smart, but with the off-chance they elected to keep the Louisville product on the roster, it could have been quite literally the worst move they could have made this offseason.

In terms of fit on and off the court, the last thing the Wizards would have needed this offseason is to take a gamble on Rozier (yes, that pun was intended.)
