The Washington Wizards haven't had many successful seasons in years past and for what its worth, this season hasn't drawn much success to start.
To add to that, the team's fanbase hasn't had much to cheer for since the departure of their All-Star duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal.
Washington has struggled to find the cornerstone of the future, and for that reason, the fanbase has been relatively quiet when it comes to sending a positive message to their players.
However, the emergence of Alex Sarr has given the fanbase a much-needed sense of validation that the rebuilding process is headed in the right direction with a potential cornerstone in place.
For Sarr, if his recent dominance wasn't a sign that his development was headed in the right direction, perhaps the reaction from the fanbase is.
Alex Sarr receives MVP chants
In the Wizards dominant win over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, not only did the Wizards get their first NBA Cup victory ever, but they saw history made with CJ McCollum's huge 46-point outing.
Despite McCollum's impressive night, his history making moment wasn't the only thing that left the team's fanbase buzzing in the win.
Finishing with 27 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals, Sarr looked like the franchise player the Wizards drafted him to be when they selected him No. 2 overall last offseason.
Receiving the first MVP chants of his career not only prove that the fanbase is behind him, but it proves that the big man is putting a sense of belief into a fanbase that has desperately needed something to believe in over the course of the last few years.
Averaging 18.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists and 52.3% field goal range 35.4% from beyond the arc, Sarr looks like a legit star for the Wizards and that's huge considering how lackluster the start to his rookie season was for the Wizards.
Washington looks like they found one of the most dynamic bigs in the league and his versatility could be what puts the Wizards in position to make a huge push when they finally land the final piece to the puzzle.
The Wizards have talent on the roster, but its clear that Sarr is the future and thats exactly what the fanbase has hoped for since Beal's depature.
Washington is behind Sarr and he'll continue to deliver with the added confidence.
