The Washington Wizards are set for a franchise-altering offseason as the team continues to work towards the future.

Over the last few offseasons, Washington has done a great job positioning themselves to make the right moves and build the best young core at their disposal.

Through it all, the Wizards have added talent like Bilal Coulibaly, reigning No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George and even AJ Johnson who they acquired ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February.

Not to mention the team's underrated finds in former undrafted prospect Justin Champagnie and former second-round pick Tristan Vukcevic, who showed major flashes of potential down the stretch of the season.

And although this season was long and hard to watch at times, the Wizards now have put themselves in position to earn a top 3 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Obviously, Washington will need multiple things to fall their way for them to achieve the dream offseason that the Wizards front office and their fanbase hopes they can acquire. But step one of their huge offseason plans has already happened.

Cooper Flagg declared for the NBA Draft

Heading into the offseason, it was still up in the air if the top prospect in the NBA Draft would forego his sophomore season to enter the draft. Cooper Flagg flirted with the idea of a return to college and his camp seemingly thought long and hard about the decision as he was one of the latest top players to declare.

Flagg is without a doubt projected to be the No. 1 overall pick and it's been hat way for awhile now. The Maine native entered his freshman season projected to be the top pick and after a monster year at Duke, he all but proved that the hype around him is warranted.

Obviously, every team in the league would like the opportunity to draft Flagg, but only three teams have a realistic possibility to do that: the Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets.

That said, the clear next step for the Wizards to put themselves in position for their dream offseason to unfold is earning the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft Lottery.

Although there were recent rumors surrounding Flagg's lack of interest playing for the Wizards, if he's available at No. 1 and the Wizards own the draft rights to the top pick, under no circumstance will they pass on him.
