The Washington Wizards have several breakout candidates on the radar heading into next season.
All eyes are on Alex Sarr and incoming rookie Tre Johnson to be the players that string together monster seasons for the Wizards, at least that's who the fanbase hopes can emerge as a rising star for Washington.
However, the one player that may be getting overlooked the most is the one player who could be set for a breakout season that alters the entire rebuild for the Wizards.
That player? Kyshawn George.
George entered the league as a raw talent, but it was clear from the jump that the Miami product had the versatility and feel for the game that could immediately make him a good player at the next level.
Throughout his rookie campaign, the forward showed flashes of just how impactful he can be not only as a playmaker on offense, but a defender.
Further than that, the Wizards wing showed real upside of how good he could be as a scorer when given the opportunity.
In Summer League, George looked like far and away one of the best players on the court at all times. The forward showed drastic improvement in his jumper and although it already looked fluent before, the efficiency behind George's shot quickly turned heads.
It's clear that with the right development, George has the upside to be a big time player for the Wizards.
And if you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe Wizards general manager Will Dawkins.
Dawkins shared high reviews about George in a recent presser ahead of the season:
“He’s [George] not just a wing he’s a basketball player," Dawkins said. "You can play him 1-4; he knows what to do, knows how to compete”
That may not seem like a lot, but the praise coming from the top shows that the decision-makers in Washington see something in the young player.
Talent is one thing, but versatility to show off that talent in more than one way is another.
If George is able to continue developing his offensive game as a scorer, what he offers as a playmaker and willing defender could immediately put him position to take a huge leap this coming season.
With Dawkins confidence in him, it feels safe to say that head coach Brian Keefe shares the same confidence in the young player.
All that to say, buy stock in George while you can.
