The Washington Wizards are in position to have a huge offseason with a flurry of potential moves on the radar in the coming months.
Washington holds two first round picks in the upcoming NBA Draft with the No. 6 and No. 18 overall picks at their disposal. In addition to their draft assets, the Wizards have multiple veterans available to be moved in any potential deal.
However, one other asset the Wizards have to help them get involved on the trade market is the fact that they have the room to take on unwanted contracts to help facilitate deals.
In turn, Washington has the potential to capitalize on their flexibility and potentially cash in on addition draft assets or young players teams may offer their way to sweeten the pot to take on salaries.
Bleacher Report's Dan Favale took the time to put together a potential Kevin Durant trade package that has the Wizards doing exactly that in this hypothetical deal.
Kevin Durant Blockbuster Trade Details:
Phoenix Suns Receive: Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., No. 10 pick, 2026 first-round pick (their own, via Washington), 2027 first-round pick (their own, via Houston)
Houston Rockets Receive: Kevin Durant
Washington Wizards Receive: Jock Landale (into Jonas Valančiūnas traded player exception), No. 29 pick, 2029 first-round pick (least favorable of Cleveland, Minnesota and Utah)
When Kevin Durant initially was rumored to be available on the open market, many wondered if the Wizards would become desperate enough to make the move to land the Washington, D.C. native. However, the speculation was quickly put to an end when the former MVP was announced to be eyeing a potential move to the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks or Miami Heat
While the idea of Durant in Washington is unlikely to happen, this scenario would be a way the Wiz could grant a favor to the DMV product.
In the deal, Washington manages to land a solid rotation big, another first-round pick in this year's NBA Draft as well as a future first-round pick that could be an underrated asset moving forward.
Not only is the future first the centerpiece of this deal that makes it beneficial for the Wizards to help facilitate it, but gaining an extra first for the upcoming draft would potentially give Washington multiple additional options ahead to potentially move up, or deal it in another deal if they prefer to not bring in four rookies.
Nonetheless, this deal would certainly allow the Wizards to come out on the positive side.
