After a win-less six-game road trip, the Washington Wizards returned home Wednesday night to take on the Toronto Raptors. Though the location may have been more favorable, unfortunately, the final results remained the same.
Behind a putrid long-range shooting performance (cashed home on just 16.7 percent of attempts) and a whopping 25 turnovers, Washington was ultimately downed by a score of 106-82 and, in turn, sustained their 15 straight loss while plummeting to 6-40 on the year.
As has been the case throughout the 2024-25 campaign so far, there were far more negative takeaways from the contest than positives.
However, perhaps one bright spot of note is the fact that veteran Kyle Kuzma put on a performance that's almost destined to get him moved before next month's trade deadline.
Latest showing by Kyle Kuzma strengthens odds Wizards can move him
For months now, it has been heavily rumored that the Wizards forward could find himself on the move this trade season as the franchise looks to rebuild. In recent days, this buzz has only seemed to ramp up, with Wizards reporter Josh Robbins revealing that Kuzma is growing "less patient" with the team's direction.
Wednesday night was a prime example of why it may be time for both parties to split and, more importantly, why he's a highly interesting target for prospective buyers.
During a game where Washington couldn't get anything going on offense (only three players in total scored in double figures), Kuzma still proved to be quite dependable as he dropped 19 points and 10 rebounds while shooting a highly efficient 50.0 percent from the field.
This, of course, comes just days after he registered 30 points on 50.0 percent shooting from the floor and 55.6 percent shooting from distance.
Now at the halfway point of the year, many title-hungry teams will be scouring the market in search of contributors who could boost their production in specific areas of play.
For those in need of a lengthy microwave scorer who can play either forward position and is attached to a depreciating deal, Kuzma could be a worthwhile target.
Now, for the most part, Kuz has been a bit up and down this year, as he's posting somewhat underwhelming averages of 14.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 42.2 percent shooting from the field.
However, his proven track record of being a capable 20+ point per game, three-level scorer alone has had him near the top of many league-wide target rank lists, and could easily net Washington some valuable assets in return for his services.
At this stage in his career and with his previous championship experience, Kyle Kuzma is far from a match for a rebuilding organization like the Wizards. Wednesday night's showing was just the latest example of this.
