The Wizards’ next John Wall–Bradley Beal duo may already be in place

Washington may have their next dynamic duo in place and it may not be the pair you're thinking of.

The Washington Wizards once had one of the most electric backcourts in all of the NBA.

With John Wall manning the point guard duties and Bradley Beal filling up the backcourt alongside him, Washington used to be a nightmare for opposing teams to game plan against.

Wall's quick first step, unreal athleticism and offensive versatility as both a dynamic scorer and crafty facilitator alone caused problems for defenses league-wide.

Then, adding on Beal's explosive scoring ability to complement what Wall had to offer, the two former SEC stars proved to be one of the most exciting pairings in the league.

And while they don't have much to show for it winning wise, there's no doubt that if the Wizards could find a duo to give them half of what Wall and Beal used to, both the front office and fan base would jump at the chance.

Over the last few years, the Wizards have done their due diligence taking swings on backcourt prospects with the hope that one could pan out.

Bilal Coulibaly has the talent, but he might not be a star the Wizards can center their rebuild around.

The same goes for Bub Carrington, who Washington will have to spend time developing to allow for his strengths to outweigh his weaknesses.

However, the team may have a young duo on the roster that has the potential to combine for the same electric play that Wall and Beal once displayed in the DMV.

That duo? The Johnson's

As we all know, Tre Johnson headlined the Wizards 2025 NBA Draft class being selected with the No. 6 overall pick.

The Texas product's scoring ability, similar to Beal's, will allow for his upside to be a star-level player in the NBA. Johnson's ceiling is incredibly high and if he can unlock the playmaking portion of his game, the sky is truly the limit.

Meanwhile, AJ Johnson may be fluing completely under the radar.

Washington landed the former-first round pick as a throw-in to the Khris Middleton deal from the Milwaukee Bucks ahead of February's NBA trade deadline.

Johnson saw little opportunity in Milwaukee, but the switch to Washington allowed for him to show a bit more of why he was drafted so high despite minimal playing time overseas. Not only did he show it for the Wizards down the stretch, but in Summer League, the athletic guard showed plenty of promise once again.

The high-flying guard is raw, but the talent is there and thankfully, he's in the perfect situation that could allow for him to blossom into another star for the Wizards.

Obviously, fans should temper expectations when talking about the possibility of this duo being on Wall and Beal's level....BUT there's plenty to like and with the potential each guard has, you just never know, especially in this league.
