The Washington Wizards rebuild isn't quite at the ending of the runway yet, but along the way its become clear that general manager Will Dawkins, head coach Brian Keefe and the rest of the team's decision maker have done a solid job assembling a talented young roster along the way.

At the moment, the Wizards don't have a cornerstone to build around, unless emerging star and former No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr can be considered the building block the team feels should be the center point of their roster construction moving forward.

Regardless, between Sarr and the sophomore leap of former first-round pick Kyshawn George, Washington has several pieces that have the chance to emerge as major contributors in the near future according to veteran guard CJ McCollum, who recently put a much-needed timeline on the Wizards young core.

And that's not even mentioning the high-upside of rookies Tre Johnson and Will Riley, who both have shown flashes throughout the start to the season.

Nonetheless, Washington has found themselves at the bottom of the NBA standings once again, even with the recent stretch of winning.

Fortunately for the Wizards, the team has a major opportunity to take a huge step forward in their rebuild this offseason if they could finally find a way to dodge the team's overwhelming bad luck that's plagued them over the last few years.

Wizards have to land a top 3 pick

Obviously, most tanking teams have their efforts centered around the possibility of landing the No. 1 overall pick to have their pick of the litter on the top available prospects in the NBA Draft.

Looking at Washington's luck over the last few seasons, it feels safe to say that the team typically finds themselves on the wrong side of the NBA Draft Lottery, even when they're tied for the highest chances to earn the top pick.

However, the last few NBA Drafts have been nowhere near as stacked as the 2026 NBA Draft class, which puts the Wizards in prime position to find a loop hole in their constant cycle of bad luck.

With prospects like Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa, Cam Boozer and even Caleb Wilson, Washington could be in prime position to land a player that could alter the entire direction of their rebuild and put them in position to make a run at a playoff spot in the East sooner rather than later.

All that to say, if the Wizards can find a way to just land a top 3 pick, their rebuild could change drastically this offseason alone.
