The Washington Wizards haven't put together the start to the season that anyone is proud of and there's no denying that.
Sitting at the bottom of the NBA standings for yet another year, Washington has some tough decisions to make as the trade deadline in February slowly approaches.
Washington has an abundance of young talent on the roster, but at the same time the Wizards have a logjam of minutes caused by the fact that the team has multiple veterans on the roster who's taking opportunity away from deserving young talent on the roster.
Obviously, names like Will Riley, AJ Johnson and even Jamir Watkins come to mind when talking about players who's scarce minutes have come at the expense of the veteran players on the roster.
However, another young prospect who's found himself scrapping for minutes is former second-round pick Tristan Vukcevic.
Fortunately for Vukcevic, his recent play is putting the team in position where they'll be forced to answer the question stemmed from their offseason decision.
Tristan Vukcevic is outplaying his two-way contract
Following multiple impressive performances down the stretch of last season, many felt that Vukcevic could be poised for a larger role in the Wizards system, especially after working with three-time MVP Nikola Jokic this offseason in FIBA EuroBasket play.
Instead, the Serbian found himself being inked to a two-way deal with the Wizards this offseason after failing to prove to the team's decision makers that he was worthy of a standard roster spot.
Fast forward to now, Vukcevic is stringing together impressive performances, averagingf 13.0 points, 4.3 revounds and 1.5 assists through the month of December.
Coming off a 18-point, 9-rebound performance against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday filling in the starting lineup for the Wizards, the looming question about the forward's future with the team is becoming harder to push off by the day.
Whether the Wizards choose to convert Vukcevic's two-way contract to a standard deal or they choose to move on and give his minutes to other young talent who fit what they're looking for better, if Washington doesn't make a decision soon, another team will make it for them.
Vukcevic's strong play could entice another team to take a swing on his talents and if they offer the young forward a standard deal, there's no doubt that the former Wizards second-round pick would take the opportunity at making a name for himself elsewhere,
