There's no denying that the start to the season for the Washington Wizards has been disappointing to say the least.
Washington finds themselves in the bottom of the NBA standings once again closer to competing for the chance to earn the No. 1 overall pick than a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Following an offseason filled with an abundance of moves, including the acquisitions of CJ McCollum and Cam Whitmore, while also assembling one of the best draft classes headlined by explosive scorer Tre Johnson, the hope from the fanbase was that the Wizards could at least show some signs of improvement this season.
However, to start the year, the team has shown arguably the exact opposite and if their 3-19 record doesn't indicate that, perhaps the fact that head coach Brian Keefe has already been forced to issue a challenge to his players to simply just look in the mirror.
Between Keefe's challenge, a Wizards player's only meeting and the fact the team has already began benching players who have failed to meet the team's standards, it's a shock that Washington avoided an F in Bleacher Report's recent article grading each team's start to the season.
Wizards start earns a D- by Bleacher Report
In a recent article written by Bleacher Report's Greg Swartz, each NBA team was given a grade based on the start to the regular season.
Washington was given one of the worst grades possible earning a D-, but honestly, it's a shock the Wizards weren't given an F considering how bad things have been in the DMV.
"The Washington Wizards were supposed to be bad, but even a 3-19 record is surprisingly awful," Swartz wrote in his latest article.
"The Wiz own the NBA's worst net rating by nearly six full points (minus-15.6) and are dead-last in both offense and defense. For a team that's still playing some veterans in CJ McCollum, Khris Middleton, Corey Kispert, Marvin Bagley III and others, that's not a good sign."
It's hard to argue against the grade given to the Wizards because quite frankly, the start to the team's 82-game campaign has been about as lackluster as you can imagine.
Outside of the sophomore leaps from Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George, there hasn't been many positives to take away from the season besides the overwhelming possibility that Washington may be in the race to earn the top overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
All that to say, based on the start, a D- could be considered a gracious grade for the Wizards.
