The Washington Wizards have made a number of offseason moves over the last few months.

From kicking things off with a blockbuster trade to acquire CJ McCollum from the New Orleans Pelicans, to offloading Kelly Olynyk's contract to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for a pair of former first-round picks, general manager Will Dawkins has been busy.

Not to mention the Wizards putting together arguably one of the best draft classes in the entire league with the addiitions of Tre Johnson, Will Riley and Jamir Watkins in the 2025 NBA Draft.

However, arguably their best move of the offseason may be the heist of a move to land Cam Whitmore from the Houston Rockets at an incredibly discounted price.

Whitmore was a former first-round pick for the Rockets and despite sliding in the draft order, many had the Villanova product ranked as a lottery-level prospect before a foot injury caused him to fall.

Entering the NBA, it was clear that Whitmore had all the talent and tools available to allow for him to develop into one of the best young players in the league.

Unfortunately, landing with the Rockets, who unexpectedly went from rebuilding to contending in a much faster time frame than originally expected put the forward into a tough situation in terms of development.

Houston couldn't afford to play Whitmore through his mistakes according to general manager Rafael Stone and with the team not necessarily having the room for him to grow his game, the Rockets elected to do right by the young player and work with him this offseason to find a trade partner that would allow for him to see immediate minutes.

Whitmore, a Maryland native, managed to get his wish to be traded to his hometown team landing with the Wizards to join the team's roster full of young talent.

While the move to acquire Whitmore was a no-brainer, it's the value in which the Wizards got to make the deal that makes this an absolute heist.

In the deal, Washington sent the Rockets two second-round picks in 2026 and 2029 in exchange for a wing who has the skillset to be a key player for Washington moving forward, if not a cornerstone if he manages to breakout.

With the addition of Whitmore among other young players on the roster, the Wizards have become one of the best young teams in the league as the 2025-26 season looms.
