The Washington Wizards are in the midst of what seems to be a rebuilding year for the franchise despite their mixture of veterans and young players.

However, with a slow start, the Wizards may turn into sellers ahead of this year’s trade deadline, which could lead to more draft picks to boost their rebuild time.

The Wizards aren’t expected to finish the season atop the league by any means. In addition, many could argue that Washington has one of, if not the worst rosters in the NBA right now. That said, the Wizards could find themselves in the position to get a top draft pick to start their offseason off in the right way.

Nonetheless, while the offseason is nearly eight months away, here’s a look at the potential draft night outcome for the Wizards in what could be one of the more important drafts in general manager Will Dawkins' rebuild

Round 1, Pick 2: Dylan Harper, Rutgers

As of now, the Wizards seem content with running Jordan Poole at point guard. But that simply could be because Washington doesn’t have any better options at the moment. If Washington is in position to get their point guard of the future, it would be hard to see them passing up on the opportunity.

Dylan Harper not only fits the skillset every team wants in their starting point guard, but his size and versatility allows him to play all over the court. The Rutgers freshman is set to take the nation by storm and he could be one of the biggest draft risers on the board by the offseason.

Harper is listed at 6-foot-6 to start his collegiate career. At his size, mixed with his elite ball handling and tough shot making ability, he has the making of a future superstar in the league. If he looks anything like he’s projected to by the 2025 offseason, the Wizards may have to make a move for the future and grab Harper while they can.

Round 2, Pick 50: Jaxson Robinson, Kentucky

The Wizards will have their eyes set on offensive weapons in an ever-changing league that is trending towards powerful offenses. They could be in a prime position to land one of the best all-around scorers in the draft with Kentucky’s Jaxson Robinson.

Robinson transferred to Kentucky after following head coach Mark Pope over from BYU. The guard spent two seasons with the Cougars, before emerging as a serious playmaker in the 2023-24 season. At 6-foot-6 and the ability to knock down shots from anywhere on the floor, he could be exactly what the Wizards envision next to Dylan Rutgers and Bilal Coulibaly.

At 21, Robinson would have a chance to contribute early with his experience of the game. Not to mention, it’s hard to imagine a shooter as talented as him wouldn’t be able to translate his game to the next level.

Considering he had worked out at the combine before returning for one more season in college, it’s clear the NBA thinks so too.
