There's a lot to be excited for if you're a Washington Wizards fan, and Will Dawkins latest update adds yet another reason.

Trae Young has signed a long-term extension to stay in D.C. for years to come, the franchise is days removed from securing their face of the franchise in AJ Dybantsa, and the young core in the nation's capital is among the best in the league.

Things are looking up in the DMV, and with the recent update on Anthony Davis' future in Washington, it feels like things are finally starting to come together.

Will Dawkins says Anthony Davis wants to be in D.C., extension talks loom

In a recent appearance on ESPN following the conclusion of the NBA Draft, general manager Will Dawkins gave a brief update on where things stand with Davis and a possible extension after months of rumors.

"With AD Again, he wants to be here and we want him here," Dawkins said. "We'll have that conversation in the middle of August when we can officially have that."

The 33-year-old only has one guaranteed season left on his current contract, and he's made it clear behind the scenes that he's seeking a new long-term extension.

Obviously, his age and injury history make conversations much different from those with Young, who is just entering his prime, but the team's bold move to land him ahead of the NBA trade deadline makes it clear that they took a swing on him with the intent for him to be a key piece moving forward.

Not to mention, the reports that Davis would prefer to play for a contender next season instead of sticking around in D.C. for a bit of a rebuild made it feel that the chances of Washington entertaining trade offers this summer could be increasing by the day.

With the Portland Trail Blazers already being mentioned as a team to monitor for AD, there never seemed to be a guarantee he'd be a Wizard when the season opened up.

Then again, there's still no guarantee because if the two sides are far apart in contract negotiations, a split could still be on the table.

Nonetheless, the addition of Dybantsa, the extension of Young, and other moves on the table have seemingly made Davis rethink his stance on whether or not he prefers to stay in the DMV.

Only time will tell, but Dawkins reaffirming that Davis wants to be in Washington is a great sign.
