The Washington Wizards entered Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons hoping to end the team’s seven-game losing streak.

However, after yet another lackluster performance from the Wizards, Washington fell to 2-10 after a 124-104 loss at home against Detroit. With their losing streak continuing to grow, the team’s hopes of competing for a play-in spot this season are decreasing drastically.

With their loss, Washington’s fanbase has likely switched their attention to the offseason as the team hopes to remain in good draft positioning with the future of the Wizards still uncertain with their young squad. Despite the uncertainty on their current roster, there’s one thing that we can be certain about – Washington is in desperate need of pressing the restart button.

Nonetheless, here’s a look at where things stand after 12 games in the regular season.

Wizards offseason seems more alive than play-in hopes

The Wizards entered the year with little to no expectations for the season, and up to this point, it’s easy to see why. Washington is young, and they’re not on the same talent level as other contending teams in either conference. Truthfully, they’re not as competitive as other rebuilding teams in either conference, such as the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, etc.

As of now, Washington has the third-worst record in the league at 2-10. With the Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers the two teams below them right now, the Wizards' chances of winning the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes are continuing to look up.

And you may be wondering why Washington’s chances of winning the No. 1 overall pick look promising if they’re the third-worst team in the league. Well, it’s simple; the Raptors and the 76ers are far better than the Wizards.

If Philly and Toronto can find a rhythm at any point in the season, Washington’s chances to earn the top overall pick in the NBA Draft lottery will continue to increase. And with Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey headlining this upcoming NBA Draft, it could be a franchise-altering move for the Wizards to get the nod in the race for the top prospects.

Obviously, no fanbase enjoys watching their favorite team lose, and the players on said team don't enjoy losing. Nonetheless, at this point in the Wizards' rebuild, losing out may be the best thing for them now, and in the long run. That said, while every loss is hard to watch, it may be for the greater good.
