Like other teams in the league, the Washington Wizards have released their brand new city edition jerseys, which they’ll wear on certain occasions this year.
Not only are the Wizards' new jerseys sharp-looking, but the team managed to incorporate unique aspects into the uniform to help the team stand out more than they already do with the new uniforms.
Here’s a look at the new uniforms before we break down what makes the new threads unique.
Wizards City Edition logo
The team inserted a twist to their current logo on the jerseys. Typically, the Wizards display their classic ball logo design. For these new jerseys, the squad changed the logo to pay respects to the surrounding area.
Rather than the classic ball logo, the team’s new logo on the City Edition Jersey rep the “DMV” which stands for “District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia.” The local name for the Washington metropolitan area.
Representing that the team’s fanbase extends beyond Washington, Virginia with Wizards fans all around the globe.
Hydrogen blue color
The team’s new jersey showcases hydrogen blue to reflect the waterways that surround the D.C. area. Inspired by the energy that flows through the city, not only does it offer a unique look, but represents the areas that make up the team’s home location.
Speckled blue ripple pattern trim
In addition to the beautiful hydrogen blue color, the Wizards went all out to represent the surrounding waterways of the city. Washington’s new jersey includes a speckled blue ripple effect in the patterned trim.
This is added to symbolize the flow and movement of the waterways.
Six stars on the side
Another cool aspect added to the Wizards' new City Edition Jerseys is the six stars placed on the side. These stars are placed on the threads to signify Washington’s Coat of Arms and Banneker’s triangular position of the first stone.
Special writing across the chest
On the jersey, “The District of Columbia” is displayed across the chest. In the 18th century, this was displayed on century maps. In an effort to illustrate the old typography, the team inserted the Old English blackletter font to resemble the history of Washington D.C.
Through the many efforts to display the deep history of the city, as well as their hopes to represent their fanbase, it feels safe to say the Wizards have one of the best-looking City Edition jerseys in the league. In addition, the deep meaning behind the unique twist only makes the uniform that much more impressive.
The Wizards will wear their new threads for the first time on December 5th.
