The Washington Wizards trying season has offered plenty of challenges and several bright spots.

Washington managed to assemble a new superstar duo, while also using this developmental season to navigate their roster full of young prospects and find out which players have a spot in the team's long-term plans.

Obviously, the likes of emerging stars like Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George have carved out a role in the team's future vision along with prospects like Bilal Coulibaly and Bub Carrington.

In addition, standout rookies Tre Johnson and Will Riley have done enough to implement themselves into those plans themselves.

Those players though, aren't the ones that ESPN revealed as the unsung hero for the Wizards up to this point of the season.

In fact, the player that ESPN's Zach Kram did highlight, is one that nobody outside of Washington fans would have expected.

Tristan Vukcevic has put together an exceptional season

Tristan Vukcevic has been one of the biggest hidden gems for the Wizards lackluster season.

The former second-round pick began the year on a two-way contract with the opportunity to prove worthy of a standard deal.

To say he did that and then some would be an understatement.

Vukcevic has seized nearly every opportunity given to him, and his per-36 numbers prove just how impactful he can be with an increased role.

When discussing the unsung hero for Washington, the versatile big man's name was revealed and for good reason.

"It's backup center, a former second-rounder, who's averaging a robust 22.9 points per 36 on solid efficiency," Kram wrote. :"With increased playing time since the trade deadline, Vukcevic has scored in double figures in 10 of 13 games."

As he continues to impress down the stretch for the Wizards, there's a real chance that Vukcevic's ability to take advantage of the opportunity will help carve out a role in Washington's lineup next season.

Vukcevic is the perfect frontcourt depth behind AD & Sarr

There's no doubt that when healthy, Washington's starting frontcourt will consist of Anthony Davis and Alex Sarr.

However, Washington's in need of a quality backup big, and with Vukcevic's size and ability to stretch the floor, there's absolutely no reason why he can't be that player for Washington.

The talent is there, and if he continues to take advantage of the opportunities the coaching staff gives him, Washington's secret weapon surely won't be much of a secret for much longer.
