The Washington Wizards have quietly turned things around throughout the start of the new year.
Washington has seemingly put their early season struggles in the rear view and over the last handful of games, Brian Keefe's squad has proven to not only be a legitimate challenge for opposing teams, but they've proven to be more than capable of knocking any team off on any given night.
Part of the reason for the Wizards newfound success has been the emergence of rookie Tre Johnson, who's become a focal part of the team's offense over the last few weeks.
Johnson, who was selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft this offseason, started the season off slowly as he adjusted to his new role at the next level.
From his freshman season at Texas, where he was the No. 1 option on offense, Johnson hasn't had any struggle to find his shot on a nightly basis, but instead understanding when its time to be aggressive on the offensive end.
The guard's decisiveness was a priority for Keefe and the coaching staff to turn around, which is exactly why Washington has made it a point of emphasis to include the explosive scorer in nearly every set on the offensive side of the floor.
Typically, any development in Washington flies under the radar considering the team's constant cycle of mediocrity over the years; unless it involves the Wizards being linked to a blockbuster trade for a former All-Star like Trae Young.
However, NBA Insider Zach Lowe is making it a point to mention the recent developments ongoing in Washington.
Zach Lowe is high on Tre Johnson
Johnson's recent play has captured the eyes of many, but one basketball mind in specific has made it a point to mention just how good the guard could be down the stretch.
On a recent episode of The Zach Lowe Show, Johnson received high praise from the NBA mind, in regards to his ability to simply knock down any shot on the floor.
“Give me the next whatever games left in the season of Tre Johnson go bananas,” Loew says.
However, Johnson's shooting isn't the only skillset that highly impresses Lowe. Instead, the rookie's ability to attack closeouts and create his own shots when he has the ball in his hand puts him in an elite tier as a scorer.
Considering what we've seen from the first-year man as of late, it's hard not to be excited about his future in Washington, especially as his confidence continues to grow.
