5) DeShawn Stevenson

by Ben Mehic

DeShawn Stevenson once wore a t-shirt that said “Hey LeBron! How’s my Dirk taste?”

He woke up that day – albeit after beating the LeBron James led Miami Heat in the NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks – and decided that was a good idea.

That simple action of putting on such an article of clothing summarizes who Stevenson is – and was during his time with the Washington Wizards.

On the court, Stevenson only had one really good year in D.C., scoring double-digit points on 46 percent shooting from the field. His antics, though, made him a cult hero.

Stevenson was arguably the funnest player the Wizards had in the mid 2000’s, and that’s including Gilbert Arenas.

Because of Stevenson’s awesomeness, Soulja Boy was the team mascot for a night against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Playoffs. Personally, that’s when I fell in love with the team.

Sure, LeBron had Jay-Z (and in many respects is the Hova of basketball), but Stevenson had Soulja Boy (and was our basketball version of the awful rapper too).

His “I can’t feel my face” taunt was replicated by kids worldwide. He had Abraham Lincoln’s face tattooed on his neck – an act that was also hopefully replicated by kids worldwide.

Stevenson – perhaps more than any other Wizard in history – brought us joy. And at times, he wasn’t too awful on the court either.
