Washington Wizards: Porter best on floor, Wizards still fall to Warriors
After beating the Bucks on Tuesday, the Washington Wizards returned home to take on the defending champions, the Gold State Warriors on Wednesday. Although this was the tail end of a back-to-back, Otto Porter, Jr. had another perfect game.
After beating the Bucks on Tuesday, the Washington Wizards returned home on Wednesday, to take on the defending champions, the Gold State Warriors. Although this was the tail end of a back-to-back, Otto Porter had another perfect game.
In their first meeting this season, Porter was the best player on the floor. Again on Wednesday, Porter outshined Golden State’s four all-stars, to once again to be the best on the floor.
He was also the only player to finish with a double-double.
But Porter’s heroics weren’t enough to stave off the Warriors, as the Wizards fall, 109-101.
Porter’s Perfect Game
In their first matchup against the Warriors, I wrote:
"“Porter was as cool as a cucumber. It didn’t matter what mistakes the Wizards made, he kept putting in an All-Star performance. He had a job to do, and couldn’t be concerned when others weren’t doing their job. Porter is the quintessential teammate, that every player should want on their team. He didn’t jack up threes. When the ball left his hand, everyone was in shock when it missed its mark. He shot 7-for-9 from three-point range, and ended the game with 29 points. Second only to Kevin Durant who had 31. Not only was Porter’s offensive efficiency off the charts, but his defense was also a sight to behold.”"
Against Milwaukee on Tuesday, Porter had 17 points including three shots from 3-point range. However, he was knocked to the floor bruising his elbow.
Coach Scott Brooks said, the x-rays were negative, but Porter’s arm was still sore. He wore an arm sleeve for the Warrior’s matchup.
Notwithstanding the sore arm, Porter was in shooting form. He opened up the game lighting up the Warriors, just like he did in their first matchup.
He scored the first 8 points for Washington, which included back-to-back-to-back buckets (two 3-pointers and a jumper).
Porter would end the first stanza with 11 points, and three shots from deep. He came ready to play the second that buzzer went off.
Porter was doing it all, battling in the paint, crashing the boards, hustling back on defense. He didn’t look as if he played a grueling matchup the night before.
The small forward looked well-rested and battle tested. He would finish the game with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Porter was also perfect from the free throw line, 5-for-5.
He would also have two steals. Porter without a doubt was the best player on the floor.
His efficiency was off the chart once again, he tallied those 29 points in 32 minutes.
