The Washington Wizards fell short of their goal this 2017-18 NBA season of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. Changes will be made in the offseason, but a change in leadership style should be the first order of business.

The Washington Wizards fell short of their goal this 2017-18 NBA season of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. Having a first-round exit was not in their plans to start this season.

After thanking the Wizards for the hard work that they put in this season, similar to what I did last year, let’s take a look at some suggestions on what may help make next season a success.

Leadership isn’t defined by what you wear, it’s who you are

John Wall said, that ‘a leader doesn’t take a day off’. There were some games postsurgery where he was on the sidelines, and Markieff Morris wasn’t playing well.

It’s understandable that Wall didn’t want to interject. However, not being in uniform didn’t stop Wall from being a leader.

That leadership cloak is something that you always wear. Although they had Bradley Beal, it was already determined that there are two leaders on this team.

The team was already short-staffed without Wall playing, that’s when they needed his leadership the most.
