Otto Porter Jr. has come a long way since becoming a member of the Wizards. He was the third overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft after two seasons with the Georgetown Hoyas. He averaged 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game before being named an AP All-American in 2012-13 and jumping to the league.

As a rookie, the 6-foot-7 forward’s prospect as an NBA player looked grim at first. He averaged just 2.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per contest through 37 appearances. Things changed by his third season, he was starting in 73 of 75 games and averaging 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

He earned a massive contract extension after averaging 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists during the 2016-17 season. He shot 43.4 percent from 3-point range, finishing fourth overall in the NBA while also shooting 51.6 percent from the floor.

His performance earned him a four-year, $106.5 million deal in the 2017 offseason. Now, he poses as one of Washington’s biggest investments for the future. Porter surpassed the 1,000-point mark in total points the past two regular seasons. He’s also made over 130 3-pointers in back-to-back seasons.

Porter finished the 2017-18 season third overall in 3-point field goal percentage (44.1 percent) while averaging 14.7 points per game. He has an opportunity to grow into a solid player in the Wizards organization, he’ll just need to continue to progress.
