Washington Wizards: 15 best draft picks of all-time
Leonard “Truck” Robinson was a second-round pick (22nd overall) by the Bullets in the 1974 NBA Draft out of Tennessee State University. He averaged a double-double in three of four seasons while at Tennessee State, finishing his career averaging 20.3 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.
Despite his production through college, he fell in the second round to the Bullets. Robinson averaged 10.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game as a member of the Bullets for three seasons starting from 1974-77.
He appeared in two postseasons with the Bullets franchise, averaging 3.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Over time, he developed into one of NBA’s best rebounders despite his 6-foot-6 frame.
By his third season, he was averaging 16.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. He was traded during the 1976-77 season on January 20 to the Atlanta Hawks for Tom Henderson and a first-round selection in the 1977 NBA Draft.
He signed with the New Orleans Jazz as a free agent in the 1977 offseason. As a member of the Jazz, he earned an All-Star selection during the 1977-78 season. He averaged 22.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 blocks per game during that year, earning All-NBA First Team honors as well.
After winning the league’s total rebounds crown (1,288) during the 1977-78 season, Truck was traded to the Phoenix Suns for Marty Byrnes, Ron Lee and first-round draft picks in the 1979 and 1980 draft. Robinson spent the final three seasons of his career with the New York Knicks (1982-85).
