Washington Wizards: 15 best draft picks of all-time
The Bullets and Tom Gugliotta relationship lasted roughly two seasons, but it was more of a testament to overall fit than anything else. Gugliotta was selected sixth overall by Washington in the 1992 NBA Draft out of North Carolina State University.
The 6-foot-10 big man averaged 13.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in four seasons with the Wolfpack. He led the ACC in rebounds per game (9.8) as a senior in 1991-92 before being taken as a lottery pick in 1992.
Gugliotta was named to the All-Rookie team for his play in 1992-93. He put up 14.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game in 81 starts as a rookie.
The next season, his scoring production went up to 17.1 points while also managing 9.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. He averaged 15.9 points, 9.5 rebounds 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals per contest in 165 games with the Bullets.
His upside allowed him to become a big trade asset in the long run when he was traded to the Golden State Warriors in a blockbuster trade for Chris Webber. With former college teammate Juwan Howard on the roster, the Bullets became a preferred destination for Webber, thus making Gugliotta expendable.
His career as a journeyman was just beginning as he spent with the Boston Celtics (20 games), Utah Jazz (25 games), Atlanta Hawks (27 games), Golden State Warriors (40 games), Minnesota Timberwolves (231 games) and Phoenix Suns (255 games).
He made one All-Star appearance with Timberwolves in 1996-97 when he averaged a career-high in points per game (20.6) along with 8.7 rebounds, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
