Big man Jeff Ruland was a 6-foot-10, 240-pound terror in his time with the Bullets. He was taken as the 25th overall pick in the 1980 NBA Draft out of Iona College. As a rookie, he produced 14.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest. He earned First-Team All-Rookie honors, showing off his knack for rebounding and scoring the basketball in the process.

He made two straight All-Star appearances from 1983-1985 after that. His 41.1 minutes per game led the NBA during the 1983-84 regular season. He had a motor that never really stopped and when it got going, the results were usually positive for the Bullets

During the 1983-84 season, he averaged a career-high 22.2 points along with 12.3 rebounds 3.9 assists and 1.0 blocks per contest. He ranked third in the NBA in rebounds per game that year and fourth in total rebounds (922).

When he was on the floor, he did work alongside the likes of Greg Ballard, Rick Mahorn and others. Ruland ranks 10th all-time on the Bullets’ career rebounding leaders (3,285). He ranks 19th in franchise history in total points as well (5,653).
