Antawn Jamison had quite the decorated career as an NBA journeyman. He was taken fourth overall in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. A product of the University of North Carolina, the 6-foot-9 brought new meaning to the definition of stretch-4.
He spent his first five seasons with the Warriors and his sixth season with the Dallas Mavericks before joining Washington as a free agent in the 2004 offseason.
He made his only two All-Star appearances with the Wizards, Prior to his arrival, Jamison made his presence known during the 2003-04 season by winning the league’s Sixth Man award. With the Wizards, he became a staple in the starting rotation from 2004-2010.
During the 2006-07 season, he poured in 48 points, a career-high with the Wizards, on 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) shooting from the field and 5-for-9 shooting (55.6 percent) from behind the arc. He also went 15-for-24 (62.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
In six seasons with the Wizards, Jamison accumulated averages of 20.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per contest through 421 appearances. He currently ranks sixth all-time in franchise history in total rebounds (3,735), 10th all-time in points (8,736) and points per game (20.8) and 13th in rebounds per game (8.9).
Just when things were getting good, he was traded away in a blockbuster trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers in February 2010. Still, Jamison will go down as one of the best versatile forwards in franchise history.
