The Wiz of Awes staff got together to discuss key questions facing the Washington Wizards as they approach the February 6th trade deadline.

Will the Washington Wizards be buyers? Will they be sellers? Will they stand pat?

The Wizards sit on a 14-28 record as we inch closer and closer to the NBA All-Star Weekend in a “developmental” season for the youth movement on D.C.’s roster. They’re playing for next year, so what do they do with the talent on the roster right now?

A lot of names have popped up in trade rumors already, from Dāvis Bertāns to Ian Mahinmi, but nothing has solidified as of yet. John Wall has been practicing recently, and Bradley Beal has said he doesn’t like to lose, so the buzz around Washington is just about at its max with a lot of questions hanging in the air.

The Wizards have been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, and 76ers as potential trade partners, with Bertāns being their hottest commodity. But they’ve publicly stated they want to keep the sharpshooting Latvian Laser.

The Washington Wizards have been, admittedly, hit or miss on deadline deals, but they’ve usually been active and geared more towards the short-term boost of their team. Will they be able to take the long view this time around? The Wizards were active at last year’s deadline and seemed to do exactly that, so hopefully they can do it again.

With glaring defensive holes all over the place, uncertainty about the level at which John Wall will return, and players due pay days in the offseason, the Washington Wizards have a lot to consider before the February 6th trade deadline.

Our staff at Wiz of Awes got together to discuss what we might see at the deadline, and who might be on the move.
