Backup Point Guard

Gilbert Arenas (2003 – 2011) 23 ppg, 5.4 apg, 1.7 spg, 4 rpg

You didn’t really think you’d get out of this list without Agent Zero, did you? It;s true, though his time was winding down with the D.C. ball club, Gilbert Arenas was still a Washington Wizard through 2011.

We considered leaving him off this list, but the next best point guard in this decade would have probably been Tomáš Satoranský.

The 2010’s brought the changing of the guard and the John Wall Era, but there was some overlap with Arenas and John Wall sharing the court for a little over 83 minutes in the 2010-11 season before Arenas was traded in December 2010 to the Orlando Magic for Rashard Lewis. In those 83 minutes they shared the floor, the Wizards gave up 9.8 more points than they scored per 100 possessions.

Hibachi was a three-time all-star (2005-2007), an All-NBA Second Team honors recipient (2007), and a Most Improved Player Award winner (2003). He’s tied for 6th all-time in Wizards franchise history in assists (with Bradley Beal), 2nd in three-point field goals made, 5th in steals, and 10th in points.

Even though his skills had diminished following his infamous 2009 gun incident, Arenas still put up better stats than any other point guard to wear a Wizards uniform in the 2010’s. He averaged 14.5 points per game, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 steals on 29.1 minutes per game through the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
