Backup Small Forward

Otto Porter (2013-19) 10.7 ppg, 39.9 3PT%, 1.2 spg, 5 rpg

Ah, here he is. When you think of Washington Wizards swing men, Otto Porter Jr. is obviously the first face that comes to mind. He held the position down longer than any of them, and through the best stretch of basketball the Wizards played in the entire decade too.

OPJ is the epitome of “doing a lot with a little” as he really didn’t need the ball in his hands a bunch to put up pretty impressive numbers. However, his game has changed and I envision him as the secondary scorer on my all-decade squad (behind Gilbert Arenas) as his offensive game blossomed to the point that he averaged 17.5 points per game last season for the Chicago Bulls.

He’s really grown into that kind of role and is currently (when healthy) being utilized as the primary scorer for the bench squad when the other starters are pulled off the floor.

Porter was definitely the right pick at 3rd in the relatively weak 2013 NBA draft, unless we all had crystal balls and could know what a beast Giannis Antetokounmpo would become. He’s still only 26, just like Bradley Beal, so his best days may yet be ahead of him.

On this All-Decade squad, Wizards fans know they can count on him to hold it down on both ends of the floor and be a net positive no matter what role he’s asked to play.
