Starting Power Forward

Nenê Hilário (2012-16) 11.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1 spg, 0.6 bpg, 51.1% FG shooting

This really was a tough one, with a couple different directions we could have gone. Jeff Green had a really nice season with the Washington Wizards, and Markieff Morris has similar numbers that are actually better in some areas.

Ultimately what it came down to with choosing Nenê for us was his toughness and ability to play both sides of the floor and set some solid screens. Nenê not only had the physical ability to play the game at the highest levels, he also had the ability to play the mental games at a high level, getting in the minds of better rebounders or shot blockers and if not their minds, getting into their bodies with a good elbow or shoulder.

The dude was certainly a bruiser but he also had .108 Win Shares per 48 minutes for the Washington Wizards (league average is .100) which is significantly higher than Keef’s .076 during his time with the Wizards. The Brazilian big man also had better court vision, averaging 2.3 assists to Keef’s 1.7.

With Nenê manning the high elbow and sometimes the paint on our All-Decade team, we have a gifted and efficient scorer and hustle player all rolled up in one. His rebounds could be a bit higher, but he’s the best we’ve got.

Fun fact: “Nenê” means “baby” in Brazilian Portuguese, and he legally dropped the surname Hilário in 2003.
