The NBA off-season is always met with trade rumors galore. We see year in and year out that stars will grow unhappy and be shipped to their next destination. There is one name that is on the rumor mill as of late; Donovan Mitchell.

The Utah Jazz are heading into a rebuild from what it seems on the outside looking in. They moved Rudy Gobert for a haul of players, but more importantly draft capital. Danny Ainge is the new head voice when it comes to decision making, which means he won’t be done shopping just one of the two stars in Utah. Ainge moved three stars out of Boston when it was to rebuild and reshape the organization. The same is being done with the Jazz.

That is why Mitchell is the next domino to fall. Where do the Washington Wizards come into play? Reports have surfaced that the Wizards are one of several teams that are interested in Donovan Mitchell.

The Wizards would obviously want someone of his caliber, but can they do it is the real question.

Trade Packages for Donovan Mitchell

One of the talented writers here at Wiz of Awes, Caleb Sarvis, proposed a potential deal for the Wizards to make.

At first glance, you would think that the offer is not steep enough to acquire Donovan Mitchell. The three time All-Star is coming off of a dismal playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks, but the talent is still tantalizing. However, the Jazz are more intrigued with something else; draft picks.

The Rudy Gobert trade sent shockwaves through the NBA. There were several players headed to the Jazz that tons of teams would love to have, but the four draft picks and pick swap was the doozy.

Nobody expected for Gobert to have that price tag. However, you cannot change the past and prices have gone up since that trade. The Jazz know that Mitchell is the more valuable asset, which means they can want the same amount, or even more.

The Wizards giving up young players, such as Rui Hachimura, Deni Avdija, and Johnny Davis can sting, but perhaps one of those guys can be taken out of a potential deal. Four to five draft picks might be a tad too much for a team that currently sits as a possible play-in team.

However, the Wizards could pull this off if they are willing to part with that many picks.

If not now, then when

Bradley Beal re-signed for the max extension to stay in D.C. for the foreseeable future. Granted that the Wizards might not be primed to win a title, but it is time to try and build around Beal. You have clearly made him the guy, but he needs someone on his level, or even better.

Donovan Mitchell is the biggest name on the market that is looking obtainable at the moment. Having your draft picks sounds good in hindsight, but when are the Wizards going to really go for it?

Despite this post-season’s failures, Mitchell has shown to be a playoff performer. That is someone that can help the Wizards get there and make some noise.

Re-signing Beal was the move to make, but you have to maximize his time here with the Wizards. Grabbing an All-Star that is still in his prime will do wonders for this organization.

The Wizards can go and grab him to build with Bradley Beal. They just need to give the Jazz the picks they desire for their franchise player.
