Option 2: Trade Kristaps Porzingis for a cheaper package.

Replacing a player aptly named the Unicorn isn’t easy, but the Washington Wizards can’t afford to lose him for nothing, especially when their draft record hasn’t proven to be all that successful. However, since trading Kristaps Porzingis needs to be on the table, it’s worth looking at what a trade for him might look like.

Would Miami consider sending Kyle Lowry, Victor Oladipo, Dewayne Dedmon, and Nikola Jovic for Porzingis and Will Barton? The Wizards would get a little bit of everything in this deal, but would it actually move the needle for this team?

How about a deal with Orlando? Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz for Kristaps Porzingis? Wizards get two positions of need out of the trade with team control and Orlando gets a steady veteran presence to pair with their young core.

Maybe Portland finally gets Damian Lillard a productive big man in his prime and send the Wizards a package centered around Jerami Grant?

The answer isn’t clear and the return for him is likely going to be below fans’ expectations. Any trade featuring the star is certain to look disappointing at first, just like the Rui Hachimura trade.

The Washington Wizards have a Kristaps Porzingis question to answer and they’re running out of time to figure it out. Whether that be by signing him to a more team friendly deal this offseason or by moving the rejuvenated star for a package with less financial attachment, they need to find their answer and they need to find it soon.
