Gilbert Arenas was once the face of the franchise and is now just a Twitter meme.

It’s been over ten years since “Agent Zero” Gilbert Arenas tore his meniscus which sent his on-court production into a downward spiral. That didn’t stop the Wizards from giving him a huge contract extension that paid him $14.6-22.3 million per year.

After giving him this extension, the incident that defined Arenas’ career and his notoriety on the internet happened and he was suspended for a year. This only sped up the process of his career going downhill.

After another season and a half with the Wizards, only playing 53 games, he was traded to the Orlando Magic for Rashard Lewis. The Magic would then waive him and continue paying him until after the 2013-’14 NBA season.

He did sign a minimum contract with the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2011-’12 season, just before the Grit and Grind era peaked, but only played 17 games and was far removed from the player he was just two years prior.

Gilbert Arenas was thankfully not a heavy burden on the Wizards salary cap at the end of his career or he would have ended up much higher on this list.
