Juwan Howard once received a max contract from the Washington Bullets.

In just his second season in the NBA, Juwan Howard of the Washington Wizards would be named an All-Star. He would become the definition of good stats on a bad team and create a whole generation of snubbing players from All-Star games because their team isn’t good.

Howard had one All-Star appearance in his entire career and that justified the Washington Wizards giving him a max contract. Although the salary cap would increase the same season that it took effect, lessening the impact.

That didn’t stop Howard from never reaching the same heights again. He would go on to play four and a half more seasons in Washington who went through a rebrand during this time becoming the Wizards. In those four and a half seasons, he would see his stats drop every year until he was traded to Dallas to play with the dynamic duo of Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash on the Mavericks.

This is a signing that hurt the Wizards for a few more years after he signed it. That is why he is listed above (or below in this case) Gilbert Arenas despite playing more games and being more productive. He also took up a much larger chunk of the salary cap during his time in Washington.
