While Bradley Beal has produced solid stats, his contract is not great.

To start off, Bradley Beal absolutely deserved the money he received and is a fantastic player. The reason he is so high on this list is the No-Trade Clause. That restricts the ability of the Washington Wizards to trade him unless he agrees to the deal. This keeps them from entering a full rebuild any time soon.

Since signing his max contract this past offseason, fans have been using his contract to argue that he has the worst in the league. It has opened the door for fans to criticize Beal far more than what he deserves and has caused many fans to laugh at the franchise for making the offer in the first place.

Beal is 29 years old and will be 34 when his contract expires. He will be making nearly $60 million in that season. While not being a player that relies on athleticism, he doesn’t contribute much to the team outside of his scoring ability. Something he leverages to draw double teams and creates shots from there.

With the lack of depth in his skill set past scoring and the fact that he hasn’t played more than 60 games since 2019 (four years ago), it’s troubling to think about how much he could harm the Wizards salary cap in four years. Especially if injuries continue to be a nagging issue.

Thankfully they haven’t been career altering, but they are still a major cause for concern with how much he is getting paid going forward.

While he is playing incredible basketball this season, it is still incredibly difficult to justify giving him that contract. Still, it’s hard to cheer against the face of the franchise.
