The initial returns for Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis definitely left many fans of the Washington Wizards disappointed. However, in the subsequent moves, the team took the league by storm and may have pulled off the biggest robbery since the Cleveland Cavaliers got Jarrett Allen for Donte Exum.
The Wizards turned Chris Paul and the 57th pick in the draft this season (Trayce Jackson-Davis) into a huge haul. The Golden State Warriors gave up Jordan Poole, Patrick Baldwin Jr, Ryan Rollins, and two second round picks.
They then drafted Bilal Coulibaly who when paired with Poole and Baldwin Jr will have the spacing to go to town in the paint. He is an extremely high upside draft pick that the Wizards will love to have on the roster.
This trio will be awesome to watch by themselves, but there are also other players on the roster who could help make the team exciting. Corey Kispert, Johnny Davis, and Deni Avdija all had stretches where they were the biggest show in DC.
This Washington Wizards roster will be putting up highlights everywhere
On his own, Jordan Poole is one of the most exciting players in the league. He will put up insane highlights on the level of Allen Iverson or Stephen Curry on a night-to-night basis, but he will also make some of the most boneheaded plays that Shaquile O’Neal would laugh at for weeks on Inside the NBA.
However, they also added Patrick Baldwin Jr and Bilal Coulibaly, two players who are more than capable of putting up incredible highlights. Coulibaly on defense and Baldwin on offense, these two will be incredibly fun to watch on the court together.
Between the trio of Avdija, Poole, and Rollins, we are going to see some of the flashiest passes that the Wizards have seen since the John Wall era. All three move the rock with confidence and with a swagger.
The never-ending confidence of Jordan Poole from three-point range will also fuel this team’s entertainment factor, likely encouraging both Kispert and Baldwin Jr to let it fly from deep, providing an extra level to the offense.
Even on defense, Johnny Davis, Daniel Gafford, Bilal Coulibaly, and Deni Avdija are all capable of producing defensive highlights. These are the plays that inject energy into the team and will likely where head coach Wes Unseld Jr would like to see players improve.
This is before any potential sign-and-trade deal featuring Kyle Kuzma. He has incredible trade value, but due to the nature of a potential trade, he is unlikely to garner a huge return for the Wizards.
The Wiz could pick up even more young players in a Kyle Kuzma move, allowing them to run an even more exciting rotation.
The Washington Wizards will have a young roster full of walking highlights to start off their rebuild. This will do nothing but make them extremely exciting to watch as they aim for the top pick in next year’s draft.
