AJ Dybantsa is making the Wizards' draft decision easier one day at a time

The projected top pick carries himself the exact way a frachise player would.

For the Washington Wizards, making the right selection with the top pick is far more important than many realize.

Washington hasn't owned the No. 1 overall pick since 2010, and with the team's historic string of bad luck seemingly ending the final season before the NBA's newly implemented tanking rules and the lottery reform, this could be the last time the Wizards own the top pick for at least another decade.

Will Dawkins has several intriguing options to choose from, but the two players who have been linked to the Wizards' top selection the most have been BYU's AJ Dybantsa and Kansas' Darryn Peterson.

Both prospects have the talent and upside to be the top pick, but the character fit and work ethic behind the two players may be the biggest difference-maker when it's all said and done.

Peterson's lack of reliability and red flags about his devotion to the sport have directly questioned whether or not he's a player Washington should invest their future in.

On the other hand, Dybantsa's media rounds have all but proved he carries himself like a franchise player, and at 19, that's saying a lot about the person the Wizards would be getting.

AJ Dybantsa embodies what the Wizards should want in a franchise cornerstone

Dybantsa's recent appearance on the Stephen A. Smith show is just the latest example of why Washington should be excited about the player they could potentially select on Tuesday to lead their team moving forward.

The BYU standout has made it clear that being the No. 1 overall pick is a priority of his, and every chance he gets to explain why, the versatile wing says the same thing:

When Smith asked Dybantsa what makes him believe he should be the top pick over everyone else, the former five-star recruit didn't hesitate:

"I'm just super versatile, 6'9, doing it all, I can play one through five. I did it this year. Small lineups, I was playing the 4 and the 5. Bigger lineups, I'm bringing the ball up, throwing lobs...I'm exciting, I fill seats," Dybantsa said.

Everything the BYU star said should be music to the Wizards' ears, considering he's got a point.

Dybantsa carries himself with confidence, but in a humble way. He understands what it takes to win, and he's made it clear he's willing to do whatever it takes to do that with appearances on the Gilbert Arenas show.

Beyond that, the talent speaks for itself, and he fills an immediate need in the frontcourt that could elevate the Wizards' ceiling overnight.

Dybantsa is the exact player Washington has been searching for, and he could change the trajectory of the team's future.

All that to say, the Wizards should be content with selecting Dybantsa at No. 1 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft.
