Anthony Davis' long-term fit with the Washington Wizards has been a question since he arrived in a blockbuster trade ahead of the NBA trade deadline; a question only he knew the answer to.

That question at hand: Is Davis committed to what's being built in D.C. or will he force his way out of Washington at the first opportunity to do so?

In the team's exit meetings on Monday, the future Hall of Famer made his stance crystal clear, revealing why he's committed to staying in Washington moving forward.

"I'm under contract," Davis said. "I love my money."

The blunt response from Davis may not be the comments fans wanted to hear, but if we're being completely honest, it's the response fans should have expected, at least for now.

Anthony Davis has no incentive to stay put outside of his contract

Looking ahead to next season, there are plenty of reasons why the team should be optimistic about the possibility of competing in the Eastern Conference, especially behind the duo of Davis and Trae Young.

At the same time, though, it's still not clear just how competitive the Wizards will be, even with how promising their roster looks heading into the offseason.

For Davis, he can buy into the team's vision all he wants, but until he's able to see what's on paper translate to the court, it's hard to imagine him going from hopeful contenders to a rebuilding squad overnight and not having any doubts in mind.

The big man's lucrative contract is the one main incentive that ties him to the Wizards; a large enough incentive that will offer a reason to stick around with the Wizards in the meantime.

Just because he's here for money now, doesn't mean things won't change

Davis may be standing pat in the DMV for now because of money, but that alone gives the team plenty of time to give the superstar forward a reason to want to stay put beyond his current contract.

The former top pick noted that he's intrigued by some of the off-court infrastructure of the team's organization, but the young talent on the Wizards has also caught his attention.

Moving forward, Washington has the prime opportunity to give Davis hope about his future in Washington, especially with a future extension already being considered a major possibility.

While money may be the main motive right now, for fans hoping to have Davis in D.C. for the long haul, there are plenty of reasons to be confident.
