Ben Simmons is everything the Wizards don't need

The Wizards should not sign Ben Simmons, even if he were to want to be in Washington.

The Washington Wizards have made several moves this offseason as general manager Will Dawkins continues to explore every possible way to put his young team in position to improve next season.

Washington traded for CJ McCollum and Cam Whitmore, selected high-upside prospects in Tre Johnson and Will Riley in the 2025 NBA Draft and they re-signed an old friend in Marvin Bagley III.

And those are just the most notable moves the team has made this offseason.

The Wizards have also took swings on former first-round picks like Malaki Branham and Skal Labissiere.

It''s clear Washington is focused on bringing in players with the potential to thrive in the right situation and with the Wizards desire to bring in both veterans and former first-rounders, it's begin to raise the question wondering if D.C. could be a landing spot for Ben Simmons.

Simmons remains as one of the best unrestricted free agents left on the market and as a former No. 1 overall pick, he certainly fits the bill for a player the team could considering taking a swing on.

However, at this point of his career and the current stage of the Wizards rebuild, he's everything the Wizards simply don't need.

Sure, he's a pass first playmaker with the size and facilitating ability to help nearly any team in the league at his best.

But looking at the last few seasons since his departure from the Philadelphia 76ers, Simmons has looked like an absolute shell of himself.

Not only has he looked like he lacks confidence, but his inability to carve out a role comes at the expense of a lack of durability and inability to stay on the court.

As a result, it's started to put doubt in the former LSU star's mind that he wants to continue playing the game he once loved.

If that's truly the case, not only does his current career timeline not fit the future of the Wizards rebuild, but there would be absolutely no reason to bring in a veteran that could kill the vibes in the locker room.

Not to mention, even if Simmons were to want to continue playing, his fit would only make sense if on a contending team like the New York Knicks or a squad that could allow for him to play several minutes, like the Boston Celtics or Sacramento Kings.

Regardless, the Wizards are simply just not a fit for him and they shouldn't be for several reasons.
