The Washington Wizards front office has quietly put themselves in a conversation that nobody wants to talk about.
Between general manager Will Dawkins and President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger's ability to build one of the best young cores in the league, while also doing a series of overlooked trades that have put the team in position to compete sooner than originally thought.
A pair of those trades came in blockbuster fashion ahead of the deadline, with Washington landing two premiere talents in Trae Young and Anthony Davis giving the team a superstar duo to lead the team's young core.
Not to mention, Washington is still in position to land a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft this offseason.
The acquisition of Young seemed more explanatory considering his discounted price, the fact he listed Washingtonn as a preferred landing spot and the glaring hole in the backcourt.
Nonetheless, the addition of Davis is a deal that certainly came out of the blue.
Not only is the fact the Wizards traded for a 32-year-old surprising, but a player with a long injury history.
Even with that, Washington's confidence that Davis can return to his former self allowed for the Wizards to fork up three first-round picks within their package to acquire the big man, which is something fans should feel optimistic about.
Washington has an extremely talented roster, but that's not the only reason fans should be excited about the direction the team is headed in.
In addition to the team's bold moves, fans should be excited about the fact that these bold moves prove that the Wizards are up to date with the latest NBA trends that the best teams are already doing.
Brian Windhorst says Wizards are doing The Flip
In a recent appearance for NBA on ESPN, Brian Windhorst gave Wizards credit for adapting a trend that he calls "The Flip".
"The idea is you do your tank, but you acquire players so when you're ready you can immediately flip," Windhorst says.
What Windhorst is referencing is the fact that Washington used their flurry of moves since departing with Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma to land players like CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton, who were both used in the blockbuster deals to be aggressive and land top talent.
Now, Washington has an extremely talented roster with both veterans and young talent, while also still holding plenty of draft capital to continue improvin in the near future.
Washington is on the rise and it's all thanks to the new front office regime in charge.
