The sophomore slump of Bub Carrington has been one of the most unfortunate developments for the Washington Wizards to start the season.

Washington entered the year seeming confident in the possibility that Carrington was ready to take on the primary ball handing duties for the Wizards, a role that was held by Jordan Poole last season.

Following the departure of Poole this offseason, the Pittsburgh product was destined to prove whether or not he could be the Wizards long-term solution at point guard.

However, the guard's struggling start to the year indidcated that not only was the playmaker not ready to take on the responsibilities as the starting point guard, but that if anything, he had regressed since the end of his rookie season.

And looking at his confusing shooting stats to start the year, it was hard to argue that the guard could turn things around.

Furthermore, it was difficult to fully grasp what exactly was going wrong for the former lottery pick, especially considering the dip of efficiency in the midrange game; an area Carrington thrived at throughout his rookie season.

Considering his poor shooting from midrange and increase in efficiency from beyond the arc, Carrington's bizarre start has left a lack of confidence in the team's fanbase when it comes to the potential that the guard could be a long-term solution.

And while that outlook may not change over night, Carrington's recent comments about his confidence in taking on the point guard responsibilities for the Wizards is encouraging to say the least.

Carrington believes he's a natural fit at PG

When asked about how he's adjusting to the increase of point guard responsibilities throughout the start of the season, the second-year man replied with encouragement:

“I feel like I’m adjusting well," Carrington said. "And I wanna adjust to it to the best of my ability, so I’ma be a hard worker in adjusting to that. I feel like I have a natural ability to do it anyway”

Carrington continued saying "it’s not really an adjustment for me as much as it’s just doing different things now. I want to, so I think it’s going well for me."

The Wizards young guard's performance to start the year hasn't been too encouraging by any means, but as he continues to gain confidence in his abilities to navigate increased responsibilities, perhaps the young playmaker will be able to turn his sophomore slump around.

All that to say, don't lose faith in Carrington's development just yet.
