There's no denying that Bub Carrington's sophomore campaign hasn't unfolded like he or the fanbase envisioned up to this point.

Entering the season with a prime opportunity to prove he could be the point guard of the future for the Washington Wizards, the former lottery pick had all eyes on him from the jump.

However, instead of proving to be the playmaker the team could build around, Carrington's slow start to the season only motivated the Wizards to make a bold move for four-time All-Star guard Trae Young when the opportunity presented itself ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

The Pittsburgh product's early season struggles were mainly tied to his bizarre shooting splits that left him posting inefficient numbers from mid-range and shooting an extremely efficient clip from downtown.

Fortunately, water seemed to eventually find its level as the season continued, with Carrington's now averaging 9.9 points, 4.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds, while shooting 39.4% from field goal range and 38.2% from three.

Still, Carrington's recent stretch continues to offer mixed feelings, especially after his recent stat line in the team's blowout loss against the Atlanta Hawks.

Bub Carrington's interesting stat line against ATL

In Tuesday's 119-98 loss to the Hawks, the Wizards' second-year man put together one of the most interesting stat lines of the season.

Finishing the game with 3 points on 1/6 shooting from the floor, with his lone points coming at the end of the game, most would consider this outing as a poor performance.

Nonetheless, when considering how the 6-foot-4 guard managed to impact the game in other ways, that review could be changed.

Outside of Carrington's atrocious shooting night, the 20-year-old managed to leave his mark on the game in other ways, finishing with 10 rebounds, 7 assists, t2o blocks and a steal.

Obviously, the numbers above don't capture the attention of the average fan, but the fact that the guard still managed to put his mark on the game proves a lot about not only his maturity, but understanding of the game to realize he can make an impact even when his shot isn't falling.

Moving forward, Carrington's growth will be vital to the team's plans and while he may not be the starting guard of the future just yet, he's more than capable of being a high-end backup that can make a difference when he's in the game.

On Tuesday, he proved exactly that.
