Entering the regular season, the Washington Wizards had several prospects with plenty of eyes monitoring their fit in the DMV.

For sophomores Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George and Bub Carrington, their evaluation in the team's future plans was the main focus.

In addition to the second-year players, veterans CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton were another talking point not only because of how their mentorship could impact the team, but due to the growing possibility that one of the two, if not both, vets would be involved in a trade at some point in the season.

Considering McCollum being at the center of a blockbuster trade to acquire four-time All-Star Trae Young recently, it's safe to say that the attention on the veterans was warranted.

However, arguably the biggest addition in the offseason who had all eyes on his first year in Washington was Maryland native Cam Whitmore.

Whitmore's arrival in Washington brough plenty of excitement; not because of his success through the start of his young NBA career, but because of the immense upside he carried with the chance to use a change of scenery to his advantage.

Arriving in Washington, a fit on the Wizards seemed like the perfect place for the Villanova product to tap into his potential and take the appopriate next step to prove the pre-draft hype was warranted.

Instead, Whitmore's time in D.C. was filled with inconsistent play and an eventual benching due to the forward's inability to live up to the standards head coach Brian Keefe held his team to.

In the end, the playmaker's season was cut short due to a blood clot that originally sidelined him indefinitely before eventually being ruled out for the season as he focuses on recovery.

Obviously, Whitmore's future is very much up in the air, but it's fair to wonder if the wing has already played his last game as Wizard?

Could Wizards move on from Cam Whitmore?

Washington has proven they're not timid about pulling the trigger on a trade that makes sense or one that they feel makes them better in the long run.

Considering Whitmore's underachievement throughout his brief stint with the Wizards suiting up in only 21 games, head coach Brian Keefe and the front office got the chance to evaluate the forward.

Furthermore, it's clear that the Wizards have their sights set on bouncing back sooner rather than later following the acquisition of Young.

If the Wizards believe that Whitmore's development isn't worth their time or they don't feel like he could be given an adequate chance to compete for minutes in Washington next season, would it make sense to explore possible deals for the forward this offseason?

Or perhaps he's included in another deal, which alone doesn't seem far fetched based of the Wizards increased activity,

Regardless, Whitmore's time in Washington could be in question moving forward.
