It's been years since the Washington Wizards have had some good luck fall in their favor, so you'd think a franchise legend like Gilbert Arenas would be excited for his old team.

Instead, it feels like his recent episode of Gil's Arena show featuring projected top pick AJ Dybantsa was filled with Arenas doing his best to sabotage the Wizards at every chance he had.

Not only did the former Wizards star suggest that Washington should trade everybody on the roster if they select Dybantsa No. 1 overall.

And if they think it couldn't get worse, Arenas openly stated that he would prefer if he landed somewhere other than D.C.

Gilbert Arenas tells AJ Dybantsa he prefers him to land in Utah

The Wizards were already forced to deal with the narratives surrounding the idea that Dybantsa would have preferred to land with the Utah Jazz in the NBA Draft instead of them, and when it finally seemed the noise was put to rest, Arenas had to stir the pot again.

"So if the spotlight is coming in, I'm gonna keep you home," Arenas told Dybantsa.

Dybantsa even questioned the Arenas, asking him if he was referencing that he should be drafted by the Boston Celtics, which, considering he's a Massachusetts native, would make sense.

Arenas then doubled down, stating that he should stay in Utah.

Dybantsa has already shut down the noise surrounding a possibility he'd force his way to the Jazz and has made it clear that being selected No. 1 overall trumps any desire he has to stay in the state of Utah.

And given that Dybantsa is clearly open to landing in the DMV, it feels like a spit in the face that a former franchise icon is publicly putting thoughts in the BYU standout's mind.

Fortunately, it feels like even Arenas sabtoage isn't enough to ruin the team's offseason.

Wizards are going to land their franchise star regardless of the noise

Whether Arenas likes it or not, the Wizards are bound to keep their top pick and select whichever prospect they believe can be the face of the franchise for the next 10-15 years.

Whether that's Dybantsa or Kansas star Darryn Peterson is to be seen, but there's no doubt that Washington will finally land their cornerstone at the end of the month.

The Wizards' dream offseason is on the horizon, and not even the questionable comments from Arenas can ruin it.
